Before you book parking, compare it

A week in Long Stay is around £245 at the gate, plus fuel, plus the shuttle bus with your cases at both ends, and your car sits at the airport the whole time.

St Albans
£80 return
Watford
£90 return
Hitchin & Harpenden
£80 return

Both legs, door to terminal, with the £7 drop-off already in the fare. On those routes a return transfer costs less than a week in Long Stay, and there is no car park to find at 4am.

Long Stay Car Park (cheapest Luton parking)

The Long Stay Car Park is the cheapest official way to park at Luton Airport, from around £35 a day at the gate and much cheaper when you pre-book. A free shuttle bus runs about every 20 minutes and takes roughly 10 minutes to the terminal, dropping you at the entrance. Best for holidays and week-long trips where price matters more than a short walk.

Mid Stay Car Park

The Mid Stay Car Park is about a 10-minute walk to the terminal, so there is no bus to wait for. It is from £15 for up to an hour and around £40 for each additional day at the gate. Motorcycles park free for up to 14 days. A good balance of price and convenience.

Terminal Car Parks 1 & 2 (short stay)

The Terminal Car Parks are the closest, a 4 to 5 minute walk, and the most expensive. Gate prices run from £15 for 30 minutes, £21.50 for an hour, £39 for 3 to 5 hours, up to £75 for 9 to 24 hours and each extra day. Ideal only for very short stays or quick pick-ups where you need to be right by the doors.

Priority Parking and Priority Drop & Go

Priority Parking gets you the nearest spaces at a premium that varies by date. Luton has replaced its old Meet & Greet Priority Parking with a Priority Drop & Go service on Level 2 of Terminal Car Park 1, a short walk from the terminal and open 24 hours (some third-party operators still offer their own meet and greet). If it is door-to-door convenience you want, a fixed-price taxi does the same job without leaving your car at the airport for the whole trip.

Luton Airport drop-off charge

Dropping off right outside the terminal costs £7 for up to 10 minutes. The free alternative is the Long Stay car park, where the first 2 hours are free, with a free shuttle to the terminal. A booked transfer takes you door to door with the £7 already included in the fare. For the full rules see our Luton Airport drop-off charges guide, and the official London Luton Airport parking pages for current prices.

Is it cheaper to park or get a taxi to Luton Airport?

Here is the honest comparison. Leave your car in Long Stay for a week and you are looking at roughly £245 at the gate (less if you pre-book), plus fuel both ways, the the shuttle bus with your luggage, and a car sitting in a field for seven days. The Terminal car parks push that past £500 a week.

A fixed-price taxi from around £40 each way from most of Hertfordshire means no car at the airport, no bus, no parking to pre-book, and the £7 terminal drop-off already included in the fare. For a solo traveller, a couple, or anyone who values the door-to-door pick-up, it is often comparable or cheaper, and far less hassle. If you are a large family driving from far away, on-site Long Stay parking can still win, so it is always worth checking your exact fixed fare first.

Either way you should pre-book, both parking and taxis are cheaper and guaranteed when arranged in advance rather than on the day.
