Landing at Terminal 2?

Where your driver meets you at Terminal 2

The single most asked question in every traveller forum we read while building this page, so here is the complete answer.

Prime Airport Transfer driver holding a name board to meet a passenger in a Heathrow arrivals hall

Arrivals meet and greet

Your driver is inside the Terminal 2 Arrivals Hall, in front of WH Smith, before you walk out of customs, holding a board with your name. It is also in your booking confirmation, so there is no phoning around with a trolley in one hand. The driver helps with the bags and walks you to the car.

Give us the flight number and we check the official Heathrow arrival time. Land early or late, the driver is timed to the plane, not the schedule.

Illustration of an adult passenger and chauffeur walking through a covered airport walkway towards Terminal Parking

The walk to Terminal Parking for collection

The car itself waits in Terminal Parking, the car park Heathrow describes as the closest to Terminal 2 (it was called Short Stay until recently, and some signs still say so). It is a short covered walk from the Arrivals Hall, and trolleys can go all the way. With us you make that walk with your driver, not on your own.

Why nobody can collect you from the forecourt

Heathrow's rule is blunt: "Pick up from our forecourts is not allowed." Collections at Terminal 2 must use Terminal Parking or Park and Ride, and cars left unattended on the forecourt are removed by the police. This is why app taxis tell you to walk to a numbered level and row inside the car park to find a car you have never seen, usually after a long flight. A pre booked meet and greet is the only arrangement where the person driving you is allowed to come inside and find you. Ours waits in front of WH Smith in the Arrivals Hall.

Dropping off at Heathrow Terminal 2

The £7 charge, the 10 minute limit and how to pay it

Heathrow charges £7 every time a vehicle enters the Terminal 2 drop off zone, with a maximum stay of 10 minutes. Both the £7 price and the 10 minute limit began on 1 January 2026. Number plate cameras record the entry; there is no barrier and no machine. Payment is online or by phone and must be made by midnight on the day after the visit. Miss it and the charge becomes £80, reduced to £40 if paid within 14 days. Black cabs and private hire vehicles are not exempt. Enter twice, for example after circling back, and you pay twice.

With Prime none of this is yours to handle. The £7 is inside your fixed fare, our driver pays it, and you are dropped at the departures level in one movement.

Where the driver leaves you

At the Terminal 2 departures drop off zone, postcode TW6 1EW, a short walk from every check in zone. Zones are assigned by airline and can change by flight, so check the live flight details on heathrow.com or your airline's app on the day rather than relying on a printed list. Heathrow's general guidance is to arrive about two hours before a short haul flight and three before long haul.

From Hertfordshire, Bucks and beyond

Travel times from Hertfordshire to Terminal 2

Terminal 2 sits in the central terminal area, so from our side of the M25 the run is Junction 15 onto the M4 spur, or Junction 14 and the northern perimeter road when the spur is slow. Times are normal traffic; we plan your pickup for the time of day.

When to leave for an early Terminal 2 flight

Work backwards: your airline's check in closing time, then Heathrow's guidance of about two hours before a short haul departure and three before long haul, then the drive, then a margin for the M25. Our planning rule for a 07:00 European departure from Terminal 2:

Pickup townNormal driveWe collect you at about

Hemel Hempstead35 to 40 min04:45

These are Prime's own planning times, not a Heathrow figure. Long haul, a T2B gate or a check in queue you want to avoid all mean leaving earlier, and we will suggest a time when you book.

The Star Alliance terminal

Terminal 2 airlines and check in guidance

Heathrow's live terminal finder listed 31 airlines at Terminal 2 on 3 September 2026. It is the home of the Star Alliance members at Heathrow, and a few non alliance carriers such as Aer Lingus and JetBlue.

Airlines currently using Terminal 2

Aegean Airlines Aer Lingus Air Canada Air China Air India ANA Asiana Airlines Austrian Avianca Brussels Airlines Croatia Airlines Egyptair Ethiopian Airlines Eurowings EVA Air Icelandair ITA Airways JetBlue Loganair LOT Polish Airlines Lufthansa Lufthansa City Airlines MEA SAS Scandinavian Airlines Shenzhen Airlines Singapore Airlines Swiss International Airlines TAP Portugal Thai Airways Turkish Airlines United Airlines

Why check in zones must be checked on the day

Terminal 2 check in is split into zones. The zone is set by the airline and can differ by flight, so a permanent list on a taxi website would be wrong sooner or later. Look at the live flight details on heathrow.com departures or your airline's app before you travel; the zone letter is shown against your flight. Every zone is a short walk from the drop off point.

Inside the Queen's Terminal

Finding your gate, lounges and the other terminals

Terminal 2A and the T2B satellite pier

The A gates are about 200 metres, five minutes, from security. The B gates in the T2B satellite are about 800 metres, 20 minutes, on moving walkways. There is no train between T2A and T2B, so a B gate means leaving the lounge 20 minutes earlier than you think.

Lounges and the nearest hotel

Heathrow lists the Plaza Premium and No1 lounges at Terminal 2, and the airlines run their own: Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, Air Canada and United among them. The Aerotel is listed as within walking distance of Terminal 2; it sits in the Terminal 3 arrivals area, reached through the pedestrian tunnel via the Terminals 2 and 3 station.

Moving between Terminals 2, 3 and 5

Terminal 3 is a walk through the pedestrian tunnel via Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3 station, which sits between the two. Terminal 5 is a free Heathrow Express transfer from that station; allow around 30 minutes door to door with luggage. Connecting with a lot of bags or a tight window? A pre booked car between terminals is possible too.

Train and Underground alternatives from central London

Heathrow Express

Terminals 2 and 3 to Paddington in 15 minutes, every 15 minutes. £26 single, from £10 booked 30 days ahead, £42 return.

Six trains an hour at Terminals 2 and 3, about 28 minutes to Paddington, from £13.90 with contactless.

Piccadilly line

From Hertfordshire every rail route means at least one change with your bags, which is why our passengers take a door to door car. From central London the trains above are excellent, and we say so.

Accessibility, child seats and luggage

Booking airport assistance

Help inside the terminal is arranged through your airline, travel agent or tour operator, at least 48 hours before travel; pre booked passengers get priority and same day help is not guaranteed. Tell us too, and we assign a vehicle with room for a folding wheelchair and a driver who walks with you from Arrivals.

Source: heathrow.com request assistance.

Choosing a vehicle for people and bags

Count every large suitcase and cabin bag and enter the real numbers on the quote form; it confirms whether a saloon, estate, MPV or 8 seater fits before you pay. Four adults with four large cases is an MPV, not a saloon, and it is far better to know that in Watford than at the kerb.

Child seat requests

Child and booster seats are available on request at no extra charge. Tell us the ages when booking and the seats are fitted before the driver leaves the base, so you are not installing anything at 4am.

Questions real travellers ask about Terminal 2 taxis

Ranked by how often the theme came up when we read the forums. Straight answers, with the Heathrow rule quoted where one applies.

How much is a taxi to Heathrow Terminal 2?
Our fixed price taxi to Heathrow Terminal 2 starts from £48 for a saloon car. Watford to Terminal 2 is £57, Rickmansworth £55, St Albans £70, Hemel Hempstead £63 and Hitchin £100. Every fare includes the £7 Heathrow drop off charge and is shown in full before you pay.
Where exactly will my driver meet me at Heathrow Terminal 2?
Inside the Terminal 2 Arrivals Hall, in front of WH Smith, holding a board with your name. That spot is also written in your booking confirmation so you are not guessing when you land. Your driver then walks you through the covered route to the car in Terminal Parking. You never have to find a car park on your own.
Do I go to the arrivals hall or the short stay car park for my pickup?
With Prime you go to the Arrivals Hall, because your driver is already inside it, waiting in front of WH Smith. Heathrow does not allow any collection on the terminal forecourt, so the car itself waits in the Terminal Parking car park (the former Short Stay), which is the closest car park to Terminal 2. App taxis make you walk there alone; we walk with you.
Can a car collect me from the Terminal 2 forecourt?
No. Heathrow states that pick up from its forecourts is not allowed and that unattended cars are removed by the police. Every collection at Terminal 2 has to use Terminal Parking or Park and Ride. That rule applies to black cabs waiting for a fare, app taxis, friends and family and pre booked minicabs alike.
How long should I allow for immigration and baggage before my pickup?
Heathrow does not publish a standard time from landing to leaving the terminal, because it depends on your stand, the passport queue and baggage. That is why we do not ask you to guess. Give us the flight number, we check the official arrival time, and your fare includes 60 minutes of waiting after an international arrival and 30 minutes after a domestic one.
What happens if my flight into Terminal 2 is delayed?
Nothing you need to do. We track the official Heathrow arrival information for your flight and move the pickup to match. The fixed price does not change because the plane was late. Waiting beyond the included allowance may be charged under our terms, but that allowance runs from the actual landing time, not the scheduled one.
How much is the Heathrow Terminal 2 drop off charge and how do I pay it?
Heathrow charges £7 every time a vehicle enters the Terminal 2 drop off zone, with a maximum stay of 10 minutes. It is recorded by number plate camera and must be paid online or by phone by midnight the day after the visit; there is no barrier or machine. With Prime the £7 is already inside your fixed fare and our driver deals with it. Non payment leads to an £80 charge, reduced to £40 if paid within 14 days.
What happens if I accidentally enter the drop off zone twice?
Heathrow charges per entry, so driving round and entering again is a second £7. It is one of the most common complaints in traveller forums. Our drivers drop you in one movement at the departures level and leave, so this is not something you pay for with us.
Is a pre booked minicab cheaper than a black cab from Terminal 2?
Usually, yes, and always more predictable. Transport for London publishes a typical black cab fare of £64 to £120 from Heathrow to central London, metered, over 30 to 60 minutes. A pre booked Prime fare to Hertfordshire is fixed before you travel, includes the airport charges and the meet and greet, and does not rise in traffic.
Is Uber cheaper than a taxi from Heathrow Terminal 2?
Sometimes at quiet times, rarely at the times people actually fly. App fares move with demand, the £7 drop off charge and any parking are added on top, and on arrival Heathrow requires you to walk to the Terminal Parking meeting point to find the car. We do not quote app prices because they change hourly; our price is fixed and shown before you book.
Why does Uber make me walk to the car park at Terminal 2?
Because Heathrow requires it. Its passenger pick up rules say app riders must meet their driver on foot in the designated Terminal Parking car park. Pre booked meet and greet is the only way to be met inside the terminal by the person driving you.
How long does it take to walk from Terminal 2A to Terminal 2B?
Heathrow says gates in the T2B satellite are about 800 metres, roughly 20 minutes, from security, using moving walkways. There is no train between T2A and T2B. The A gates are about 200 metres or five minutes from security. If your gate is in T2B, add those 20 minutes to your plan.
How do I get from Terminal 2 to Terminal 5 with luggage?
Take the free Heathrow Express transfer from Heathrow Central (the Terminals 2 and 3 station) to Terminal 5. The station sits between Terminals 2 and 3 and is reached through the pedestrian tunnel. Allow around 30 minutes door to door with bags. If you are connecting with a lot of luggage or a tight window, a pre booked car between terminals is also possible; ask us for a quote.
Can I walk from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3?
Yes. Terminals 2 and 3 are linked by a pedestrian tunnel via the Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3 station. Travellers on forums note the station is closer to Terminal 3 than to Terminal 2, so allow a little longer from the Terminal 2 side with luggage.
What time should I leave Watford or St Albans for an early Terminal 2 flight?
Work back from your airline's check in closing time, then add the drive and a margin. Watford to Terminal 2 is about 30 to 35 minutes in normal traffic and St Albans 40 to 50 minutes. For a 07:00 departure with check in closing at 06:00, we would collect you in Watford at about 05:00 and in St Albans at about 04:45. When you book, we set the pickup time for you and adjust it for the time of day.
Which airlines fly from Heathrow Terminal 2?
On the day we checked, Heathrow's terminal finder listed 31 airlines at Terminal 2, including Lufthansa, United, Singapore Airlines, Air Canada, Aer Lingus, Swiss, Turkish Airlines, Air India, ANA, SAS, TAP and Eurowings. It is the home of the Star Alliance members at Heathrow. Airlines move between terminals, so always confirm the terminal on your booking before you travel.
Which check in zone do I need at Terminal 2?
Zones change by airline and sometimes by flight, so we do not publish a permanent list. Check the live flight details on heathrow.com or the Heathrow app on the day, or your airline's app. Your driver drops you at the departures level, from where every zone is a short walk.
Which vehicle should I book for four people and four suitcases?
An MPV. A saloon suits solo travellers, couples and small parties with normal luggage, an estate keeps the same seats with a bigger boot, and an MPV or 8 seater is built for families and groups with more bags. Enter the exact passenger and bag counts on the quote form and it confirms the right vehicle before you pay.
Can you provide a child seat for a Terminal 2 transfer?
Yes. Child and booster seats are available on request at no extra charge. Tell us the ages of the children when you book so the right seats are fitted before the driver sets off.
Can a wheelchair user book an accessible pickup from Terminal 2?
Yes, tell us at booking and we will assign a vehicle with room for a folding wheelchair and help with the walk from Arrivals to the car. For help inside the terminal itself, Heathrow asks you to request assistance through your airline at least 48 hours before travel; pre booked passengers get priority.
Can I take a luggage trolley all the way to the pickup point?
Trolleys can be taken to the Terminal Parking car park, which is where the car waits. Your driver also helps with the bags, so most passengers do not need one for the short covered walk.
Which hotels can I walk to from Heathrow Terminal 2?
Heathrow lists the Aerotel as within walking distance of Terminal 2; it sits in the Terminal 3 arrivals area and is reached through the pedestrian tunnel via the Terminals 2 and 3 station. The Bath Road hotels are a few minutes away by car and we collect from all of them at a fixed price.
Can I book a return taxi from Heathrow Terminal 2 at the same time?
Yes, and it is the thing most people forget until they land. Book both legs together and the return is priced at the same fixed rate with £5 off the combined total. Add the inbound flight number to the return leg so we can track it.
Do you operate 24 hours to Heathrow Terminal 2?
Yes, every day of the year. Early European departures and evening long haul arrivals are our busiest Terminal 2 times. Fixed route prices are the same at 4am as at 4pm.
