1. The Luton DART: Is it Worth It?
The Direct Air-Rail Transit (DART) replaced the old shuttle bus. It connects Luton Airport Parkway station to the terminal in under 4 minutes.
- Pros: Fast, clean, and reliable. No getting stuck in traffic.
- Cons: It costs £4.90 each way. For a family of four, that's nearly £40 just to get from the station to the terminal!

If you are a group of 3 or more, a taxi from your door is often cheaper than train tickets + DART tickets combined.
2. The New £9 Drop-Off Charge
Following the rebuilding of the multi-story car park, Luton has updated its drop-off tariffs. It remains one of the strictest drop-off zones in the UK.
- Cost: £9.00 for up to 12 minutes. Pay online or by phone by midnight the next day.
- Additional time: £1.00 per extra minute, with a maximum stay of 30 minutes.
- Location: The Drop Off Zone is located directly outside the terminal entrance.
How to avoid it? Use the Long Stay Car Park, free for up to 2 hours. A free shuttle runs every 20 minutes and takes about 10 minutes to the terminal. Allow time to unload and wait for the bus.

3. Security Fast Track
Luton's security hall has been upgraded with next-gen scanners (meaning you can often leave liquids in your bag), but queues can still be long at 5 AM.
Fast Track costs from £6 per person. Is it worth it?
- Yes: If you are travelling 6 AM - 8 AM on a weekday.
- No: If you are travelling mid-day. The main queue usually moves fast.
4. Where to Meet Your Driver
Unlike Heathrow airport transfers, drivers cannot wait directly outside Arrivals at Luton.
The Pickup Zone: All private hire vehicles (including us) must use Priority Pickup Zone 1. It is a short 2-minute walk from the terminal exit. Follow the signs for "Taxis & Private Hire".
5. Getting to Luton Airport: the Parkway and the DART
Luton Airport Parkway is the nearest railway station, and it is the route most people arriving by train use. Thameslink and East Midlands Railway run from London St Pancras International in roughly 25 to 40 minutes, with further Thameslink services from St Albans, Luton, Bedford, Gatwick and Brighton. The station does not sit at the terminal though, so from the platform you ride the Luton DART people-mover across to the airport in under four minutes.
There are really three ways to arrive, and the right one depends on how many of you are travelling:
- Train plus the DART: reliable and traffic-free, but you carry your bags through the station and pay £4.90 per person each way on the DART on top of your rail ticket.
- By car: straight off Junction 10a of the M1, then either the £9 drop-off charge or paid parking from the moment you stop.
- Door-to-door Luton airport taxi: we collect you from your front door and set you down at the terminal entrance. No Parkway changeover, no DART tickets, no parking machines.

Heading in by car or programming a sat-nav? These are the details worth saving before you set off:
- Full address: London Luton Airport, Airport Way, Luton, Bedfordshire, LU2 9LY.
- Sat-nav postcode: LU2 9LY brings you onto Airport Way and the terminal approach, straight off Junction 10a of the M1.
- For rail and the DART: aim for Luton Airport Parkway station, off Kimpton Road, Luton, then follow signs for the DART.

7. Hotels Near Luton Airport
If you have a very early departure, a night close to the airport takes the sting out of a pre-dawn start. The most convenient choices sit within a few minutes of the terminal:

8. Shops, Food and Lounges at Luton Airport
Most of Luton's shopping and food sits airside, once you are through security, so do not count on doing much before you check in. After security you will find World Duty Free, WHSmith and Boots, alongside fashion and gadget stores for anything you forgot to pack.
To eat and drink there is Pret a Manger, Burger King, Frankie & Benny's and a handful of coffee and bar options.
