1. Know Your Terminal (Before You Book)

This sounds obvious, but it is the #1 mistake travelers make. Heathrow terminals are not walkable from each other (except T2 and T3). Knowing your terminal allows us to park in the correct short-stay car park.

• Terminal 2 (The Queen's Terminal): Home to Star Alliance airlines (United, Lufthansa, Air Canada, Singapore Airlines).
• Terminal 3: Used by Virgin Atlantic, Emirates, Delta, and some American Airlines flights.
• Terminal 4: Home to SkyTeam (KLM, Air France) and Qatar Airways. Note: T4 is located to the south of the runway, significantly further away from the central area.
• Terminal 5: The exclusive home of British Airways and Iberia. This is the largest terminal.

2. Why "Meet & Greet" is a Non-Negotiable

Here is the secret ride-share apps don't tell you: Uber cannot pick you up at the Arrivals door.

If you book an app-based ride, you must drag your luggage to a designated "Ride Share Zone" located in one of the Short Stay car parks. After an 8-hour flight, navigating lifts and walking 15 minutes across a rainy, cold concrete car park is the last thing you want.

3. The Truth About Flight Delays

One of the biggest anxieties about booking a car in advance is: "What if my flight is late? Will the driver leave?"

This is why you should never book a generic taxi that operates on a rigid time slot. At Prime Airport Transfer, we ask for your Flight Number (e.g., BA283) during booking.

4. Luggage: Don't Underestimate It

A standard "Saloon" car (like a VW Passat or Toyota Prius) can comfortably hold 2 large suitcases and 2 carry-ons. That is the limit.

If you are a family of four traveling for a two-week holiday, you likely have 4 large suitcases. They will not fit in a saloon.

We always recommend upgrading to an Estate (Station Wagon) or an MPV if you are unsure. The price difference is small (often just £10-£15), but the comfort of not having a suitcase on your lap for an hour is priceless.

5. Booking in Advance Saves Money

While you can find a Black Cab at the taxi rank outside Heathrow, it will be on a taximeter. If there is traffic on the M4 or M25 (which is almost guaranteed), that meter keeps ticking. A trip to Watford or St Albans can easily cost £120+ in a Black Cab during rush hour.

6. Taxi from Heathrow to London: which route are you actually booking?

Most people searching taxi from Heathrow to London need one of three things: a direct hotel transfer, a station connection, or the fastest route into Central London after landing.

That is why it helps to decide the real destination before comparing prices. Heathrow to Paddington, Heathrow to Kings Cross, Heathrow to Euston, and Heathrow to Victoria all mean slightly different traffic patterns, meeting points, and total journey times once you are outside the airport.

• Paddington: useful if you are connecting onward into West or Central London.
• Kings Cross / St Pancras: common for rail connections north, Eurostar, or hotel stays around King’s Cross.
• Euston: practical for West Coast Main Line journeys and business travel.
• Victoria: useful for coach links, hotels, and South London connections.

If you already know the station or hotel area, go straight to the booking form and compare the fixed quote rather than treating “London” as one destination.

7. Heathrow Airport Postcodes and Sat-Nav (by Terminal)

Heathrow is one airport, but its terminals are spread across a large site with separate access roads. If you are driving in or setting a sat-nav, use the postcode for your specific terminal rather than a generic "Heathrow" pin, otherwise you can end up on the wrong side of the airport with no easy way across.

• Terminal 2 (The Queen's Terminal): TW6 1EW
• Terminal 3: TW6 1QG
• Terminal 4: TW6 3XA
• Terminal 5: TW6 2GA
• General airport area: TW6

Terminals 2 and 3 sit together in the central area, reached off the M4 at Junction 4. Terminals 4 and 5 are on their own access roads, with Terminal 5 reached off the M25 at Junction 14. 8. Heathrow Terminals, Maps and Getting Around

Knowing the layout before you land saves a lot of confusion. Heathrow has four working terminals, 2, 3, 4 and 5 (Terminal 1 closed in 2015). Terminals 2 and 3 are next to each other in the central area; Terminals 4 and 5 are separate and a few minutes' drive apart, so you cannot simply walk between all of them.

If you are connecting onward by rail, you have three options from Heathrow:

• Piccadilly line (Underground): stops at every terminal. The cheapest option, but also the slowest with luggage.

Free inter-terminal transfers connect the terminals if you land at the wrong one, so do not panic if your onward gate is elsewhere.
