4. Reliability: Train Strikes vs. M25 Traffic

Connecting flights sometimes land you at one airport and send you out from another. Stansted to Luton is the pairing we are asked about most, and there is no single direct train between the two, so the rail options send you through London with at least one change.
By road the run is usually a little over an hour when the M11 and the A505 are clear, and noticeably longer through the morning peak. Luton to Gatwick and Heathrow to Stansted work much the same way, with the M25 doing most of the driving and causing most of the delays.
Airport to airport trips are priced by distance rather than from our fixed town list, so put both airports into the booking form and the quote comes back fixed before you pay, with the drop-off charge included. If you are moving between airports on a tight connection, give us the flight numbers and we will plan the pickup around the arrival.
6. Planning the pickup, and how much buffer to leave
Pick the airport first, then work out how you are getting there. That order matters, because a cheaper flight from the airport further away can be undone by a longer and less predictable transfer.
For Gatwick from Hertfordshire the pressure point is the M25 southbound arc, and the M1 interchange in particular. For Stansted it is the run across to the M11. Both clear quickly once you are past them, and both can add half an hour in the Friday evening peak, through school holidays, or when overnight roadworks are still being lifted.
Early departures are where rail gets risky. A train leg plus a shuttle at the airport end gives the plan two or three places to slip, and if any one of them runs ten or fifteen minutes late you are rebooking at a ticket machine. A direct pickup has one moving part.
If your trip has little room for delay, a long haul check-in, a medical appointment or exam travel, choose on how reliably you reach the terminal door rather than on the ticket price. Give us the flight number when you book and we will plan the pickup around the arrival.
